Government v's The People

A story in the newspaper today tells of a young couple with children, who three years ago had to leave their house due to it being in the path of roading plans by the Government. 

So they moved, settled, raising their kids happily, renovated their house.  To find out their current house is now located in new plans for new roadways.  Because of these plans, their house, and many others around it, have been devalued and cannot be sold as who would buy a house in a zone that has plans to be knocked down?

When are the Government gonna pull their heads out and stop shafting those it relies on for votes?  When are we gonna stand up as their EMPLOYERS and say enough is enough?  I feel sorry for this young couple, who were doing everything right for their family, paying off the mortgage, renovating their house, investing in the future of their kids.  And suddenly, some unknown idiot who likes to draw lines on maps, has come along and ripped it all out from under them..

I am aware that progress needs to be made in a city, and that roads and bus-ways will be good for commuters and that those services need to be upgraded from time to time.  What I object to however, is the complete disregard for public opinion.  We need to stand up to these councils and tell them what we think of them.  And the very next election we get, we should vote their asses out.  This head in the sand mentality of "It's better the devil you know..." when it comes to voting, is completely ludicrous.  Why not give a new crowd the chance to prove themselves, instead of allowing the same ones back in. 
What really shits me is all the campaigning before an election.  Yes I know they need to advertise their people and policies, totally agree with that and more power to them.  What annoys me though, is they seem to spend more of OUR money on their smear campaigns against the other parties, than they do on actually saying what they plan to do if elected.
For gods sake, shut the hell up about how the other side will ruin the country, and tell us what ideas you have on how to sort things out.  Unless, and I think this may be the case, the smear campaigns are a cover up for having nothing to say.
Some of us were taught, that if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.  Imagine how quiet the newspapers would be if all the politicians shut the hell up.  I know, I'm dreaming the impossible dream.
